Winter Holiday Galveston

Get ready for Part 3 of our Winter Holiday in Galveston as we continue our RV travel adventure exploring historic downtown, braving stormy weather, and uncovering fascinating beach treasures. Whether you’re a full-time RVer, weekend traveler, history buff, or state park vacationer, this episode is packed with exciting experiences that showcase why Galveston is the perfect winter getaway!

Strolling Through Historic Downtown Galveston & The Strand

Our adventure kicks off with a trip to The Strand, Galveston’s famous historic district filled with Victorian architecture, unique shops, art galleries, and festive holiday decorations. Walking along the charming streets, we took in the vibrant atmosphere, explored local boutiques, and admired the beautifully preserved buildings that give this district its old-world charm.

During our stroll, we stumbled upon some fantastic holiday markets featuring handcrafted gifts, local artwork, and delicious treats—a must-visit for anyone looking to bring home a piece of Galveston’s charm. The Strand is also home to several museums and historical sites, perfect for history enthusiasts wanting to learn more about Galveston’s past.

Lunch at a Local Favorite – A Taste of Galveston

No adventure is complete without great food, and we found just the spot! We grabbed lunch at a local Galveston eatery known for its fresh seafood, savory burgers, and Southern comfort food. With the crisp winter air adding to the cozy atmosphere, we enjoyed a delicious meal while soaking in the coastal views.

RV Life Challenge – Braving Stormy Weather & a Tornado Watch

The Gulf Coast is known for its unpredictable weather, and this trip gave us a firsthand experience! As we wrapped up our afternoon in town, the skies darkened, the wind picked up, and we found ourselves under a tornado watch. Back at our Galveston Island State Park campsite, we had to quickly prepare for the approaching storm—securing outdoor gear, retracting the slides, and double-checking our weather alerts.

The night brought heavy rain, strong winds, and an intense lightning show, but thanks to solid RV prep, we rode it out safely. Stormy nights in an RV can be nerve-wracking, but they’re also part of the adventure!

Morning Beach Walks & Mysterious Ocean Finds

After the storm cleared, we woke up to a peaceful morning and took Enzo, our adventurous pup, on a beach walk along the Texas Gulf Coast. The storm had stirred up all kinds of fascinating beach treasures, including Portuguese Man o' War jellyfish washed ashore—a reminder of the incredible marine life that thrives in these waters.

The beach was also scattered with colorful shells, driftwood, and unique finds, making for an exciting morning of exploration. For those who love beachcombing, Galveston’s shores offer endless opportunities to discover hidden gems washed in by the tide.

RV Cooking Adventures – Blueberry Pancakes & a Surprise Mishap

Back at the RV, Mike fired up the grill for another delicious breakfast featuring homemade blueberry pancakes. There’s nothing like enjoying a fresh-cooked meal while overlooking the beach, but RV life always comes with unexpected surprises.

One of our funniest moments? Realizing our bagels had turned mysteriously blue overnight! A quick Google search told us it was likely a reaction between preservatives and moisture, but we weren’t taking any chances—time for an emergency Walmart run to restock our breakfast supplies!
