We’re considering selling our house and going full-time in our motorhome. But is it the right move? We’ve been RVing for 20 years, and we love our motorhome, but selling our home is a big decision. Today, I’ll break down the real pros and cons of going full-time RV to save money for retirement—some of these might surprise you!
Why are we considering this?
We’ve reached a point where maintaining this house and yard just doesn’t make sense anymore. It’s a constant drain on time and money, and honestly, we’d rather put that money toward retiring sooner and actually enjoying life. What’s our plan? We’re thinking about selling our house, living full-time in our RV, and storing the things we want to keep for our future home base—whether that’s a casita with an RV pad or a small plot of land. That home base could be six months away, or maybe two years, but we know we want one eventually."
If you’ve ever thought about doing something similar—or even if you think we’re crazy—let me know in the comments!
Pros:
Going Full-Time in Our RV for Retirement Savings
Massive Savings on Housing Costs
We Already Love RV Life
Freedom to Travel While We Can
No More Home Maintenance & Yard Work
We Still Have a Temporary Home Base
We Can Store What We Need for the Future
Flexibility to Find Our Next Home Base
Cons:
No Permanent Home
Unexpected RV Expenses Can Add Up
Adjusting to a Smaller Living Space
Internet & Remote Services Can Be a Challenge
What If We Don’t Love It Long-Term?
So, is this the right decision for us? Right now, it feels like the smartest way to save money, reduce stress, and enjoy life while we can. But it’s a big change, and we’re thinking through all the angles.
What do you think? Would you ever sell your home to go full-time in an RV? Or do you prefer having a permanent home? Drop a comment below—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
