While staying at the beautiful Fairview-Riverside State Park, we decided to take a day trip to the iconic city of New Orleans! For me, it was a chance to revisit a place I hadn't seen since a wedding in 1985, and for Mike, it was his very first adventure in the Big Easy. Spoiler alert: it did not disappoint!

Our journey began with an unforgettable drive across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, the longest bridge in the U.S., leading us straight into the heart of the French Quarter. Unlike my hazy memories of Bourbon Street’s wild, gritty vibe, what we discovered this time was a whole new side of New Orleans—clean, vibrant, and absolutely brimming with history and charm.

From the lively Mississippi River filled with barges and tugs to the iconic St. Louis Cathedral and bustling Jackson Square, every corner had something to offer. We indulged in beignets at Café du Monde, explored unique local shops, bought fudge and pralines, and savored incredible Creole seafood for lunch. There’s still so much we missed, but that just means one thing: we’ll be back!
