We travel to Albuquerque to Isleta Lakes RV Park and Casino to explore the area and to visit my cousin. What is with the wind? It almost blew us off the road again! We promptly check out the casino... they have a bus that will pick you up right from your site & deliver you back when you're done. Wow! That's a really nice feature especially if you have been driving all day. We're not big gamblers but the casino with all it's shops and restaurants are fun to explore.
The howling wind ruined most of our Saturday to venture out except to have a wonderful breakfast at a popular local place called Grammys. This is a cool little place that has been there for ages and has a great local following. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly. They have some very unique items on the menu too. We would definitely would go back there again!
Sunday is gorgeous, & calm so we hike a 2 mile loop trail which is also the National Petroglyphs Monument. So interesting--but you have to really look to see the drawings on stone. Lots of history too! We have a great time discovering the petroglyphs... spoiler alert--most of them are at the back of the canyon. We met a park ranger who gave us tips on what to look for. Some are indians, some are spanish settlers (the crosses) and some are really old settlers who wrote their names & dates are around the early 1900s.
Afterwards, we go to my cousin's home for a BBQ. Seeing family is always the best. I haven't seen her since before COVID... before that she traveled everywhere. We had the best time and hopefully I'll see her again sometime soon.
Unfortunately Mike has to work this week, so I meet my cousin on Monday & we go to the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo... and have a fantastic time! The zoo is wonderful and huge... we must have walked 10 miles...it seems. Ha. We saw so many animals!
Tuesday, after work, we check out a cool little restaurant owned by a local multi-generational family which has amazing Mexican-American food. Finally, there is a gorgeous sunset for our last evening there.
Then we're off to another New Mexico state park-- but that's coming up in our next video.
