Spending Christmas on the road might sound unconventional, but for us, it’s become one of the most peaceful and meaningful ways to celebrate the holiday season. This year, we traded busy schedules and chilly weather for coastal views, mild temperatures, and the freedom that comes with RV life along the Texas Gulf Coast.
Our destination for the week was Rockport KOA Journey, a newer campground that turned out to be a perfect home base for a relaxing holiday. With a level concrete site, a patio complete with chairs, a table, and even a swing, it felt like a little outdoor living room where we could truly settle in. Add in the peaceful lake views and a fire pit for cozy evenings, and it quickly became clear this was going to be a special place to spend Christmas.

Like many RV trips, our journey included a stop at Buc-ee's — because no Texas road trip quite feels complete without it! From there, we made our way to the coast, ready to embrace a slower pace and a different kind of holiday experience.
Instead of rushing from one obligation to the next, we focused on simple, intentional days. Morning coffee outside. Quiet walks around the campground. Exploring the nearby coastal areas at our own pace. It was a reminder that the holidays don’t have to be hectic to be meaningful.
One of the things we appreciate most about RV life is the flexibility it offers. Spending Christmas in a motorhome allows you to adapt traditions in a way that fits your lifestyle. Whether that means decorating a small space, cooking a favorite meal in your RV kitchen, or simply enjoying the view outside your door, it all becomes part of your unique holiday story.
The Texas Gulf Coast is also an ideal winter destination. The temperatures are typically mild, making it comfortable to spend time outdoors, and the coastal scenery offers a refreshing change from traditional winter landscapes. It’s a great option for RVers looking to avoid colder climates without sacrificing the spirit of the season.
As the week unfolded, we found ourselves appreciating the quiet moments the most — time to reflect, recharge, and enjoy each other’s company without distractions. It wasn’t about doing more; it was about doing what felt right.
Spending Christmas this way may look a little different, but that’s exactly what makes it so special. RV life gives you the freedom to create your own traditions, wherever the road takes you.
And for us, this coastal Christmas was a beautiful reminder that sometimes, less really is more.
